Extech Introduces Heated Diode Refrigerant Leak Detector
Category-first LED probe work light illuminates dark job sites
(Nashua, NH, USA) Extech Instruments, makers of the best handheld test and measurement tools, introduces the new RD300, a heated diode refrigerant leak detector that pinpoints leaks of all CFC, HCFC, and HFC refrigerants with three levels of sensitivity to leaks as small as 0.25oz/yr (7g/yr). The ergonomic tool also features a built-in LED work light on the probe tip for dimly lit locations.
"Leak detection can be one of the most tedious parts of HVAC-R diagnostics. The new RD300 makes it easier to quickly find leaks, without waiting for UV dye to travel throughout a system," said Mike Fox, General Manager at Extech Instruments. "And when tracking lines for leaks in dark mechanical rooms, the built-in work light eliminates the need for a separate flashlight, freeing up one hand."
The compact and rugged detector uses a gooseneck probe to access leaks in tight locations and cramped compartments, such as engine bays and self-contained air conditioners/refrigeration units, while also extending access to overhead refrigerant lines. The RD300's heated sensor has a fast warm-up cycle and quickly detects Râ€22, Râ€134a, Râ€404a, Râ€410a, and all CFCs, HCFCs and HFCs. Depending on a site's leak detection requirements, users can choose low, medium or high sensitivity, from 0.99oz/yr (28g/yr) to 0.25oz/yr (7g/yr).
The large, progressive color-coded 9-LED bar-graph provides at-a-glance information on levels being detected. Audible alarms can be muted to avoid disturbing occupants or nearby workers. The 18" (450mm) flexible probe reaches far into equipment and aids users, by reducing the need to bend down or stretch overhead to reach lines. The probe also features a bright LED work light at the tip for instant illumination, wherever the probe is aimed. A 13-hour battery life ensures extensive, worry-free usage between batteries. When the sensor or LED work light does need replacing, both are easy to swap right on the job to minimize downtime when service is needed.
